Miss World 2008 TalentNatalie Olivia Griffith from Barbados gave the performance of her life at the Miss World Talent Show and was voted as this year`s Miss World Top Talent, securing herself a place in Saturday`s Semi-Final.

Natalie Olivia Griffith said: `Thank you to my room-mate, she has supported me throughout. This is very exciting for my country as it is the first time that we have a Semi-Finalist at Miss World.`

Nineteen contestants took centre stage tonight to perform live in front of an audience that included 200 school children from Soweto at the Sandton Convention Centre, as they tried to impress the judges with dancing, singing and playing musical instruments.

Martinique, Mexico, Ukraine, Gibraltar, Denmark, Lithuania and Nigeria did a mixture of modern and traditional dances from their country. South Africa did a gumboot dance and Austria did a dance routine with a hula hoop.

There were vocal performances from Cayman Island, Indonesia, Northern Ireland, Barbados and Portugal. Instrumental performances were from Kazakhstan and Malaysia, who played the keyboard, Ireland the flute, Chinese Taipei violin and Croatia horn.

The standards were very high and the judges had a tough time selecting the most talented contestants, however after much deliberation the panel made their choices for the top three.

Joining the winner on stage in second place was Kathrin Krahfuss from Austria and third was Iryna Zhuravska the representative from Ukraine.
Talent is one of the Miss World Fast Track events, so Barbados is now guaranteed a place in the Semi Final line-up in this year`s 58th Miss World at the Sandton Convention Centre, Johannesburg on Saturday 13 December.

9/04 - Miss World beauties to head for South Africa

Johannesburg residents should prepare for swarms of the world’s most beautiful women this festive season.

The city has been announced as the host of the Miss World 2008 pageant, to be held in December.

The pageant, originally supposed to be held in the city of Kiev in the Ukraine, was moved to Johannesburg as organisers grew concerned about conflict in neighbouring South Ossetia and Russia.

This week they bestowed the honour of hosting the show to South Africa, Johannesburg Tourism confirmed yesterday.

The competition, scheduled for December 13, will be held at the Sandton Convention Centre in Johannesburg. The current Miss South Africa, Tansey Coetzee, will be competing for the title currently held by Zi Lin Zhang of China.

Julia Morley, who chairs Miss World Limited, said she was impressed by Johannesburg’s bid.

It will be the sixth time that South Africa hosts the pageant. It was held in Sun City from 1992 to 1995, and again in 2001. — The Times, Avusa Group News
