Georgia conflict halts Miss World contest

Reigning Miss World 2007August 14, 2008 - The upcoming Miss World competition in the Ukraine has been postponed over fears the ongoing conflict between Russia and Georgia could spread to the host country.

The international beauty pageant was due to take place on October 4th at the Ukraine National Palace in Kiev.

But the escalating violence between the two nearby countries has now sparked concerns that Russia may turn its military might against the Ukraine.

So officials have chosen to relocate the competition and are currently searching for a new host country.

A statement from the Miss World organizers reads, "Due to circumstances beyond our control, it was with deep regret that the decision was taken to postpone the Miss World 2008 Final. The decision was taken in the interests of the contestants and the Miss World Organization."
